Blueberry Basil Margarita

Blueberry Basil Margarita

If there is one thing you try, please try my Blueberry Basil Margarita. It's sweet, tart and refreshing all in one sip. Perfect for a hot summer day at the beach or on the patio.

One of my favorite flavor combinations in a beverage are blueberries and basil; they were made for each other.  Add some tequila in there and I am in actual heaven. Basil thrives in warmer weather, and the best time for blueberry harvest is July - August. So, as a New Jersey girl, this is the perfect summer cocktail.

Adding a fresh herb also impresses guests and just makes the beverage sound a little more "fancy", ya know? Blueberry Margarita? No, blueberry BASIL margarita. See how much better it sounds? Don't skip the basil leaf garnish here, it makes every sip of this beverage more flavorful.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Small Handful of Fresh Blueberries - A little less than 1/4 cup.
  • 4-6 Large Fresh Basil Leaves - Use as much basil as you'd like! The more the merrier in my opinion.
  • 1 Tablespoon of Hot Honey or Agave - I like to use hot honey with this because it adds a mild, sweet heat without overpowering the basil blueberry combo. This is just as good with regular honey or agave though.
  • 1 Shot of Lime Juice - Adding in that fresh citrus.
  • 2 Shots of Tequila - Adjust the amount of tequila used to your preference. Measure with your heart as some may say.
  • Shaker Cup - I use this one from
  • Muddler -
  • Strainer -

 Instructions:

  1. Muddle blueberries, basil, honey and lime juice.
  2. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain into cocktail shaker.
  3. Leave muddled mixture in the strainer, pour tequila through the strainer. This creates optimal flavor!
  4. Add ice to shaker and shake well.
  5. Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice.
  6. Garnish with fresh blueberries and a fresh basil leaf.
