Spicy Jalapeño Blackberry Margarita

Spicy Jalapeño Blackberry Margarita

Switch up your classic margarita for a Spicy Jalapeño Blackberry Margarita. Made with fresh ingredients and a spicy jalapeño kick.
Why aren't blackberries called purple berries? When muddled, blackberries create such a gorgeous purple juice. They make for a very pretty and impressive looking beverage.
This blackberry margarita is not only my most viral recipe, but it's one of the first cocktails I made when I started experimenting with creating cocktails at home. It will always be one of my all time favorites. Some of my margaritas I prefer to make without triple sec, and this is one of them. I like to let the blackberries shine and be the star of the show.

Spicy Jalapeño Blackberry Margarita

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 Shots of Tequila - I prefer a stiff drink, so adjust the amount of tequila you use to your liking!
  • 1 Shot of Lime Juice - I use fresh but if you don't have any available, the bottled lime juice will work as well.
  • Small Handful of Blackberries - About 6-8 berries.
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon of Agave - 1 TBSP will go into the cocktail and you can use the rest to rim your glass.
  • Jalapeños - This step is optional but highly encouraged. To make it spicy, add 3-5 jalapeño slices depending on how spicy you like it.
  • Chili Lime Powder - This will also be to rim the glass.

Instructions:

  1. Dip glass in agave and then chili lime powder. Place glass in the freezer while you make your margarita. If you want to avoid the agave dripping down the sides of your glass, place cup upside down on a plate while it freezes. I personally don't mind the drips though.
  2. Muddle blackberries, jalapeños, lime juice and agave.
  3. Strain into a cocktail shaker. Muddle as you strain to get all of that sweet blackberry juice into the shaker.
  4. Leave muddled blackberry mixture in strainer and pour tequila through strainer into cocktail shaker. You can either discard the muddled mixture or put them into ice cube molds for a later date. I typically just discard though because I don't like pulp.
  5. Add ice to cocktail shaker.
  6. Shake, strain & pour over ice into frosted glass.
  7. Garnish with fresh blackberries and a jalapeño slice.
